- Despite claims it has been overrun by tourists in recent years, Bali has retained its magic and adventurers will find plenty to do here. This small tropical Indonesian island offers idyllic beaches, mountains, fertile plains, lakes and active volcanoes. Measuring just 140 kilometres across its widest section, it is possible to drive around the whole of Bali in one day, but contained within this compact island is a wealth of adventure sports.reisanbau in asien - palmen, insel bali image by Jörg Jahn from Fotolia.com
- With its tropical waters and rich and diverse marine life, Bali is a diving paradise. It is thought that Bali has 85,000 square kilometres of living coral reef, making up 14 percent of the world's coral reefs. Divers can experience close encounters with dolphins, sharks, sun fish, and moray eels. The Air Diving Academy provides a range of excursions and courses to secret caves, wrecks, lagoons and islands for experienced and beginner divers.
- Surf some of Bali's big waves. Bali has been a popular surfing destination since the 1930s. The advantage of a small island means that surfers have many beach options to choose from and can mix up their surf trips. Big surfing and breaks can be found on the southwest and southeast of the island, including the barrel reef-breaks of Padang Padang and Uluwatu. The range of surf in Bali means that novices can also catch some gentle, rolling two to four foot waves.
- Keen trekkers can hot foot it on many walks through rain forests, small villages, and rice fields. Bali's dense forests are home to a multitude of birds and diverse fauna. A popular trek, run by quite a few tour companies, is to the lake village of Bendugul, where hikers start by crossing the lake in a canoe and then continuing on to view forest and mountain scenery.
- Take a trip to the Elephant Safari Park at Turo. Hand-feed and pet the elephants before venturing into the park's forest on an elephant safari.
- Visit the active volcano of Mount Batur, which has erupted 24 times since 1800. Climb the volcano up over the lava rock path, with an experienced native guide, in the early hours of the morning to view sunrise from the peak.
- Brave two of Bali's best rafting rivers, Ayung and Telaga. Tour companies run day excursions so visitors can experience the rush of the rapids and the surrounding scenery.
